Our
activities and historic precision
Activities carried on by the Tierraquemada
Celtiberian Cultural Association always
try to conform to the maximum historic
precision. Advise from Dr. Alfredo Jimeno,
Director of the Archaeological Site of
Numantia, and his team, together with
texts from classical writers (Apiano ,
Polibio...) and the fruits of the continuous
archaeological research, enable us to
apply the mentioned historic precision,
reflected not only in clothes, armaments,
ornaments and other utilized elements,
but also in their manufacturing processes,
carried on by members of the Association.
"TIERRAQUEMADA CELTIBERIAN CULTURAL ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES". These historical re-enactments we perform, and all other activities we carry on, are a tribute to the Numantine population that, in defense of their own freedom, stood in front of the almighty Roman Legions, reaching extreme limits when they opted for sacrificing their own lives instead of submitting to Rome and loosing their freedom.
COMING TIERRAQUEMADA ASSOCIATION EVENTS:

July 31, 2004. – Performance of "Mancino naked before the Numantine wall". Like every year, on the last Saturday of July, we will carry on the re-enactment of one of the most significant events of the "Numantine Wars", happened between 153 and 133 B.C.
This time, the performance will be about the historical fact that Consul Mancino close a peace treaty with the Numantines but, when back in Rome, the roman Senate rejected this treaty, considering it a "shame on Rome". The roman Senate decided sending Mancino back, for his shame and destruction, naked in front of the Numantines.
We will provide further details about this event later this year.
Venue: Saturday, July 31, 2004. First part will take place at noon, at the streets of the village of Garray. Second part will take place at 6 pm, at the Archaeological Site of Numantia.
August 2004. – Setting at the Archeological Site of Numantia, during the “open doors” day at the archeological site in Numantia Like every year, at the end of the excavation season at the Archaeological Site of Numantia, the Tierraquemada Celtiberian Cultural Association, in collaboration with the Archaeological Site and the Cstilla y Laon Regional Government, will organize this "open doors" day.
Members of the Tierraquemada Association will perform every day life scenes, fighting trainning, armaments demonstrations, other elements demonstrations, utilization or re-built houses and many other aspects of every day life and culture from Celtiberian and Roman times, in the uncomparable location of Numantia.
This way, visitors are able to see and feel an "alive Numantia". This is a significantly important activity because of its didactic value, that helps getting a better understanding of the Archaeological Site remains.
Venue: Still not fixed, but around mid August.
