INTRODUCTION TO TIERRAQUEMADA
Words like Numantia, Numantine, and Numantine Resistance… are clearly attractive. These words have become universal because of the reminiscent meanings about the struggle between the almighty and the weak to preserve freedom, values that have been praised thanks to the extreme limits reached during the events we know as Numantine Wars (from 153 to 133 B.C.).

These values have also penetrated Garray, a small village located at the base of the Archaeological Site of Numantia, in the province of Soria, Castilla y León, Spain. This village id deeply involved in its History and, as the natural inheritor of those settlers of the second century B.C., performs and pays popular tribute to those significant historical events, not only about war, but also about culture and everyday life of its ancestors, reviving History and spreading it as deserved, with great proud from all participants.

These re-enactment activities we perform are a tribute to the Numantine population that, in defense of their own freedom, stood in front of the almighty Roman Legions, reaching extreme limits when they opted for sacrificing their own lives instead of submitting to Rome and loosing their freedom.

With this presentation we expect to make you aware of the feelings of an entire village and its population, identified and bound to its History that, by means of these re-enactment performances, honors its ancestors and their inherited example, with historic precision.
